Guest Post: Mums: Transfer Your Passion Into a Business | Mommy ...

Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to subscribe to the RSS feed for updates on this topic. Did you know we've started a community to discuss parenting, share advice, and love one another? We'd love to see you there!

We all have things that we love to do; whether it?s baking cakes, gardening or a variety of crafts, but
when we become parents, that becomes our full time job and our hobby, leaving us little time for
the things we enjoy.

When our children grow up however and start to fly the nest, many mums and dads think about
returning to their careers. However, for some, the prospect of returning to their old careers isn?t all
that appealing and this is where franchising can be a fantastic option.

Many people dream of doing the things that they love as their jobs and setting up their own
businesses, doing just that. However, starting your own business can be a scary prospect and the
financial overheads can be too much for some to even consider.

Franchising is basically a way to run your own business, but with the backing of a successful business
model and lower set up costs to help you get started. It?s a bit like a cross between being your own
boss and working for a company. There are two different types of franchise models to choose from
and these are business franchising and product/trade franchising.

With business franchising the franchisee is given trademarks and logos to use to establish
themselves as part of a brand name, as well as a framework to work with. Business franchises
also offer additional training, support and advice. The franchisee will pay royalties in these kind of
franchises, plus an initial upfront fee to set up the business.

Product/trade franchises do not include royalty fees, instead the franchisor provides a product to
be sold as well as logos an advertising, helping the franchisee to secure their business in different
locations.

Franchising can cover a multitude of different business sectors, with everything from fast food to
art, crafts and design. Whatever you like to do, why not make it into a business by setting up your
own franchise? There are websites dedicated to parents looking to set up their own franchise such
as http://www.workingmums.co.uk where you can find more information about types of franchises
and how to get involved.
