(AP) ? Brandt Snedeker gave himself the opportunity he wanted in the FedEx Cup. He also has the company he expected.

Snedeker played one of his best rounds this year at just the right time Saturday, making a collection of tough putts and relying on his short game to pick up a couple of other birdies on his way to a 6-under 64 that gave him a share of the lead with Justin Rose in the Tour Championship.

That means he now only has to win Sunday at East Lake to claim the FedEx Cup and its $10 million prize, the richest payoff in golf.

So does Rory McIlroy, who was only three shots out of the lead.

Ditto for Tiger Woods, four shots behind.

The Tour Championship has never had so much at stake for so many top players.

"It's going to be one of the most exciting Sundays of the year," McIlroy said after a 68. "Great to be in the mix."

McIlroy, who won the last two FedEx Cup playoff events, had his 11th consecutive round in the 60s. Woods salvaged an important par after his shot ricocheted off a Georgia pine and wound up with a 67.

Snedeker, McIlroy and Woods were among the top five seeds coming into the Tour Championship, giving each the best shot at the $10 million because they only have to win the Tour Championship no matter what anyone else does at East Lake.

They won't be the only players with a chance to win at least one trophy ? the Tour Championship ? on Sunday. Rose will be in the final group with Snedeker, and while it's unlikely he can win the FedEx Cup, the Englishman surely would settle for his second win of the year against a strong field.

"I have the advantage of just playing the Tour Championship," said Rose, who won a World Golf Championship at Doral in March. "The whole year, we've been grinding for the FedEx Cup, and it's still possible. It's not an easy golf course. Things can happen out there. But for me, it's about one tournament."

Snedeker and Rose were at 8-under 202.

Ryan Moore spoiled his round with a bogey on the 17th and still had a 65, putting him alone in third at 6 under.

Jim Furyk, the 36-hole leader, was tied for the lead until he pulled his tee shot into the water on the 17th, hit the next tee shot into the gallery, his fourth shot into a bunker and made triple bogey that sent him tumbling down to a 72. He was still in the mix at 205, along with McIlroy and Masters champion Bubba Watson, who had a double bogey on the 16th hole and shot 70.

Typical of the FedEx Cup playoffs, there was plenty of star power in contention, with 11 of the top 14 players on the leaderboard headed to the Ryder Cup next week.

For now, the attention shifts in a big way to the $10 million payoff.

"My first goal for this week is achieved," Snedeker said. "And that is to have a chance going into Sunday. It should be a lot of fun."

Snedeker also shot a 64 in the second round of the British Open at Royal Lytham & St. Annes, though he rated this one as better. There was no wind at Lytham, and the conditions were relatively soft. East Lake demanded a crisp game as the wind rustled pine branches and the greens became firm.

"It was so tough today," Snedeker said. "The wind made it so hard to hit the fairways here because the wind seemed like it would move the ball 4 or 5 yards one way or the other, and these fairways might be 15 yards side. Just every iron shot has to be hit so crisply to control your distances, and I did a great job of that today."

The next step for Snedeker is winning from the last group, something he has never done. The fast talker from Tennessee is the master of coming from behind on the last day. He is tied with Rose, with a number of stars behind him all aiming for the big prize ? the Tour Championship, which also would bring the FedEx Cup.

"It looks like I've got a shot at it tomorrow," Woods said.

He made two birdies on the back nine to stay in the chase, though no shot proved as valuable as the par on the 16th. From deep in the woods to the right of the fairway, Woods saw a tiny gap in the trees and was only concerned that with his ball sitting down in the rough, it might come out low or high. He forgot about the direction, pulled it slightly and it caromed off the tree and sideways into the fairway. From there, he stuffed his third shot into 12 feet and holed the putt for par.

The FedEx Cup is up for grabs in so many ways.

Woods, McIlroy and Snedeker could win it by finishing second, depending on how the others fare. There's even one scenario in which Woods could finish alone in third and McIlroy could be alone in fourth, and they would be tied in the FedEx Cup and go to the par-3 18th to play off for the $10 million title.

All three of them are thinking more about trophies than mathematical equations.

"I'm playing for the 'W,' and tomorrow I get a great shot at it," Woods said. "All the money and awards and all of that stuff, that comes along with winning championships. That's the way I've always looked at it, and right now, I'm four back."

McIlroy showed up at East Lake for the first time believing he had to win, and that hasn't changed. Watson and Furyk are tied with him. Snedeker and Rose are ahead of him. Woods is right behind him.

"They're not up at the top of the standings for nothing," McIlroy said. "They're playing well. They've played well the last few weeks. I knew coming in there if I won, I'd win everything, and that's still my attitude going into tomorrow."

Snedeker is going for his fourth PGA Tour win, though he has never won from the final group. He has come from five, six and seven shots behind, the latter at Torrey Pines at the start of the year when Kyle Stanley made triple bogey on the last hole. Snedeker doesn't plan to look at the leaderboard and figure out where he is in the FedEx Cup.

With so many players still in contention ? 12 players separated by five shots going into the final round ? a player who describes himself as a "jumpy" will have to settle down.

"My goal tomorrow is to shoot as low as I possibly can," Snedeker said. "If that's 63, it's 63. If it's 72, it's 72. Whatever it is, it's going to be everything I've got on that golf course tomorrow."

Nest home monitoring device pops up at the FCC with ZigBee, greater ambitions

Nest home monitoring device pops up at the FCC with ZigBee, greater ambitions

Thermostat makers aren't exactly known for their rapid update cycles, so we've been wondering just when a company as unusual as Nest would try its encore. If a new FCC filing is any indication, Tony Fadell and company aren't resting on their temperature-controlled laurels. While we don't know if it's a thermostat as such, the "home monitoring device" at the US agency sports Nest's familiar circular shape while tossing in some previously unseen ZigBee wireless -- a clue that there's home automation harmony afoot, either with other Nest units or with third-party devices. It's also apparent that Nest is keeping WiFi and won't venture far from its internet-friendly roots. All of the firm's secrets will be revealed in March, although we'll side with Zatz Not Funny and leave the possibility of an earlier announcement that helps us lower our heating bills.

SpaceX's 'Grasshopper' vertical takoff vertical landing rocket takes its first small hop video

This test-firing may not match the flame of earlier demonstrations, but SpaceX CEO Elon Musk tweeted out a brief eight-second video of another setup it's testing, the "Grasshopper" reusable vertical takeoff, vertical landing rocket. While the first hop would've been shamed in any interstellar dunk contest, future tests will range in height from a few hundred feet to two miles. The goal is to eventually create a reusable first stage for its Falcon 9 rocket, able to land safely instead of crashing into the sea and being damaged beyond repair. Hit the more coverage links for a few more details on the project as well as pictures of it at the Texas test site, or check after the break to see the video.

Green cars and cheap auto insurance | Science and Technology

by admin

Can you get cheap auto insurance for green cars? The answer is yes, but you have to look for it. Because more and more people are choosing to go green, the government is offering incentives to companies to go green, so there are more offers for green car insurance.

The initial cost of a car and the cost of repairs is what drive the cost of insurance. The higher the initial price the higher the premiums are. The higher the cost of repair or claims in accidents the higher the premiums are. It use to be that hybrid cars were very expensive and only offered in the luxury line; not anymore. While Toyota?s groundbreaking Prius starts in the mid $30K?s they now offer a hybrid Camry models, and smaller fuel efficient cars that are more like European inner city cars (Toyota Yaris). Honda has the economical Civic hybrid models, as well as it?s little euro car called the Fit, then there are the Smart cars by Mercedes, with Scion, and Fiat to rounding off the close to 40 mpg or more mini car choices. The latter group is considered green because of its gas mileage and carbon footprint. Most models start out in the MSRP rage of $16K and up.

For insurance, this means they are economical to insure. If you check out the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety website (http://www.iihs.org/ratings/) you can look up the ratings for some of these cars. The information provided will let you know how the insurance industry rates the car for safety and how much they have paid out for repairs and injury claims. (This is under the heading Insurance losses.) Armed with this information you can choose the model that fits your style, budget, and within your insurance premium comfort range. Then ask about the Green car discount.

p>Many insurance companies offer more or less cheap auto insurance, exactly ? a 10% discount for your green car. If you opt for middle to higher end model, say Accord, Prius or Lexus the 10% discount from the insurance company can come close to the difference in price for insuring the hybrid model over the standard model.

?

Going green can be a great thing for you and the planet. Be an educated consumer; use this site to let you compare cheap auto insurance quotes. Make sure to tell them you have a green car and ask if they offer the 10% green discount.

Achieve Ultimate Weight Loss,Health & Fitness Success Implementing

Don?t we all want to look and feel better, prevent disease and illness, live a longer more vital life and improve the quality of their life in every way possible too?
I have found through my experience as a fitness professional that the best Fitness/Wellness Programs are those designed to help you achieve your goals in the most effective, healthy and time-efficient way possible.
I?d like to share some important and vital steps toward Obtaining Weight Loss and better Health and Fitness Success.

Optimum Nutrition: Fitness results or fat-loss efforts are best if you don?t ever skip breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The right breakfast is key. You should be eating three nutritionally balanced meals each day, and you should have at least two or three healthy snacks. This keeps your metabolic furnace fueled, so you burn additionally at a faster rate. Healthy fats are necessary to your body for a bunch of reasons: regulating hormonal production, improving immune function, lowering total cholesterol, lubricating joints, and providing the basics for healthy hair, nails and skin. If you are a committed consistent exerciser you should eat a gram of protein per 1 pound of your weight. So if you weigh 120 Lbs. you should eat approximately 120 grams of protein per day. The majority of your carbohydrates should come from vegetables and fruit.

Remember the ones with high water content like, grapefruit, tomatoes, cucumbers, cantaloupe and strawberries, will fill you up nicely. Eliminate junk foods. Fried foods and white, refined sugar and breads are junk. If you?re trying to lose weight and reduce fat, merely abolish these foods totally from your diet. Drink ample amounts of fresh water. The recommended amount is approximately 8 glasses, or 64 ounces, of water every day. You need to drink even more when you are exercising. Eat frequently throughout the day. You need to be eating three nutritionally balanced meals each day with two to three healthy snacks in between. Your metabolic furnace will be continually fueled and you?ll burn additionally at a faster rate. This seems contrary to what we?ve all been brain washed to believe in the past, but this is the absolute truth.

Dynamic exercise: Set some short-term goals. This enables you to stay on top of your progress and keep you motivated when you don?t feel like exercising. A key fitness ?secret? is to keep a journal of your cardio and resistance training workouts, as well as your daily nutritional intake to insure your fitness success. Don?t miss your exercise engagement with yourself. Don?t waist time and more importantly chance injury by exercising incorrectly. Get well-informed on the absolute best ways to exercise. I always recommend hiring a personal trainer to create a program for you and teach you how and what exercises to do correctly. Statistics prove that those who comprehend how to exercise properly get the best results faster. Always stretch first before your work outs. Some benefits of stretching are improved flexibility, better blood flow and muscle recovery, eases low back pain and numerous other things. For maximum fat-loss you need to make your cardiovascular exercise low intensity.

Your heart rate during cardio exercise should not exceed 60% to 75% of your maximum heart rate. Try wearing a simple heart rate monitor during exercise so you always stay in your peak fat-burning range. Take it easy in the beginning of your fitness program. There needs to be a conditioning period before it is safe to move forward more aggressively. Start with two days per week of 30-minute light resistance training (using weights or resistance machines) then cautiously and consistently add more days for a more enhanced outcome. Always work the largest muscle groups with compound resistance movements. This means it incorporates multiple muscle groups at one time and in one exercise.

Resistance (weights or machines) is the best and quickest way to lose fat and tone and firm your body. When you have advanced your fitness level, exercising should get somewhat more rigorous. Endorphins will rush through your veins in an intense workout providing you with the ?feel good? drug or ?euphoria? that will keep you coming back for more. Try to appreciate the experience and truly enjoy the process. Developing the habit is the hardest part. But I promise if you give it thirty days at least, of your earnest efforts and patients, a little investment of time will pay off with an abundance of healthy and happy befits forever.

Hormonal Balance: Many people complain that they don?t see any weight loss, improved strength, fat reduction in spite of consistent nutrition and exercise programs. This can be truly frustrating. I, my self being 43 years of age have experienced a little of this frustration as well and am now seeing wonderful results after getting my hormones into balance through natural hormone replacement therapy. Hormone (thyroid, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, and Human Growth Hormone) deficiency is responsible for many of the symptoms of aging. Severe deficiency over prolonged periods of time might result in illness, physical impairment, disabilities, morbidity and mortality. You can literally turn back time, turn back your biological clock 20 years? enhance your sexual performance, remove wrinkles, excess body pattern fat, restore hair color and growth, strengthen your immune system, increase energy and cardiac output, rejuvenate your body and mind, revitalize your heart, liver, kidneys and lungs through current state of the art , anti-aging techniques which includes avoidance of risk factors of disease, optimum nutrition, Dynamic exercise and Training, caloric restrictions, antioxidant therapy, and if necessary hormone replacement.

Hormone replacement therapy is relatively easy to treat and is readily available today. Numerous scientific studies over the past thirty years or more have proven it?s effectiveness in the reversing of the mal effects of old age.

Positive Motivation: Every single thing is the result of thought, and must first be in the mind of the person creating it before the manifestation of the material can exist. Our bodies, success and happiness are unconsciously hereditary patterns and are our subconscious impressions. When we consciously direct our thoughts to our own desires we do this by the same law and our results are just as absolute.

Positive affirmations are fabulous to repeat to yourself daily to insure a successful, positive creation. Affirmations imprint on your subconscious mind what you want to manifest in the present and future. Fix in your mind the mental image or pattern of what you want to manifest or create and it is sure to be realized in the material world. Visualize a mental picture of physical perfection, picture every detail and repeat; 10 times each, 10 times daily. I AM young, beautiful, healthy, happy, harmonious, loving and successful in all areas of my life. You can create your own script for your perfect mental picture or pattern of your hopes, dreams and desires: Repeat your affirmations while looking in the mirror at yourself with love and kindness.

Repetition is the key to yourself and success. Do this faithfully, honestly, rigorously, gratefully and consistently and add with it a daily routine of true spiritual practices and meditation, health, fitness and sound nutritional practices, SYNERGISTICALLY woven into your life and the universal laws will never betray you.

(AP) ? The death toll in a pipeline fire at a distribution plant near the U.S. border has risen to 29, Mexico's state-owned oil company said Wednesday. At least 46 others were injured, and more might be missing.

Juan Jose Suarez, director of the state-owned Petroleos Mexicanos company, told local media earlier in the day that at least five workers had not been seen since the blast. On Tuesday, the company, known as Pemex, said in its Twitter account that a total of seven people were unaccounted for.

President Felipe Calderon said the quick reaction of emergency teams prevented a "real catastrophe," by controlling the fire before it reached the huge tanks of a neighboring gas processing plant.

The enormous fire Tuesday hit a distribution center near the border with Texas that handles natural gas coming in from wells and sends it to a processing plant next door.

"The timely response by oil workers, firefighters and the Mexican army was able to control the fire relatively quickly and avoid a real catastrophe of bigger proportions and greater damages if the fire had spread to the center for gas processing, which is right there," Calderon said in a speech in Mexico City.

The blast and ensuing fire left charred tanks and a mound of tangled steel at the walled plant near the border city of Reynosa, across from McAllen, Texas.

Two of the injured were reported in serious condition.

Dr. Jaime Urbina Rivera, deputy medical director of Hospital Materno Infantil de Reynosa just a few miles from the plant, said his hospital had received nine injured workers with first- and second-degree burns covering 10 percent to 40 percent of their bodies, with the burns concentrated on their backs and legs. They all arrived conscious, he said.

Pemex officials said the blast appeared to have been caused by an accidental leak, and there was no sign so far of sabotage. The Mexican Attorney General's Office opened an investigation into the explosion Wednesday, sending more than 20 investigators into the site, which was blocked to the press.

The facility's perimeter walls, topped with razor wire as a security measure in a country that has seen thieves, saboteurs and drug gangs target oil installations, presented an obstacle for plant workers trying to flee.

Esteban Vazquez Huerta, 18, who was inside the plant when the fire erupted, managed to find a gap in the wire, scale a wall and escape. "We had to climb the wall from that side because the fire, the heat was reaching us," Vazquez Huerta said Wednesday as he stood outside the plant, waiting for word of missing co-workers.

Until the final moments before the explosion there was no sign anything was amiss, Vazquez Huerta said.

Pemex said workers from contracting firms, such as Vazquez Huerta, and its own employees were performing routine maintenance at the plant, where pipelines from gas wells in the Burgos basin converge. The plant feeds gas next door to separate liquid hydrocarbons from the gas. The production is for domestic Mexican use.

Vazquez Huerta said that suddenly the pipes where he was working, about 300 to 400 yards (meters) from the explosion, began to sound like they were repressurizing, after being closed for maintenance.

There was a blast and he and two co-workers began running. A second explosion knocked them to the ground, but they got up and continued running. They found a space along the back wall that wasn't topped with razor wire and boosted each other over.

Investigators were interviewing other workers to find out more details that could help determine what caused the leak.

Hospital officials said some workers with serious burns were transferred to Monterrey, 140 miles southwest of Reynosa. Dr. Arturo Justiniani, director of a Mexican Institute of Social Security hospital, said they lacked enough beds for those injured.

"We don't have memory of another event of this kind," he said.

People arrived at the federal prosecutors' regional office to identify the bodies of relatives.

Gustavo Cruz said his 31-year-old brother, Jaime Cruz, died in the arms of another family member who worked in the plant.

"He was very happy" working there, Cruz said.

Calderon said that the government will carry out an exhaustive investigation of the cause of the fire.

The blast forced the closure of the wells and the evacuation of people at ranches and homes within three miles (five kilometers) of the gas facility, which is about 12 miles (19 kilometers) southwest of Reynosa.

Calderon sent condolences to the victims' relatives and vowed to make sure those injured receive help.

Pipelines carrying gasoline and diesel in Mexico are frequently tapped by thieves looking to steal fuel, and those sometimes cause spills or explosions. But thieves seldom target gas pipelines.

In December 2010, authorities blamed oil thieves for an oil pipeline explosion in a central Mexico city near the capital that killed 28 people, including 13 children. The blast burned people and scorched homes, affecting 5,000 residents in an area six miles (10 kilometers) wide in San Martin Texmelucan.
