Weight loss Tips You'll Wish You'd Heard ... - New Health and Fitness

New Health And Fitness.Org - Health Information You Can Use

It?s easy to abandon the idea of starting a weight loss plan right away because the choices, recommendations, expectations and possibilities could be too conflicting, overwhelming and confusing. Before you begin throwing money at products and services which could or not work for you, take some time to read this article to sort your thoughts and find what may work for you.

Be sure to always drink water. You may just be thirsty if you are feeling hungry.

Workout is the main component in many fat burning plans since it burns calories, but you should switch your routines up. Have a different exercise routine per day of the week to keep things interesting.

Try ridding your diet plan of red meat to drop some weight. Cholesterol and saturated fat are horrible for your heart, and red meat has a lot of both. Choose lean meats, like pork, fish, and poultry.

Don?t eat anything less than three hours before going to sleep, and if you do eat a meal later in the evening, keep it light on carbs. This may keep your whole body nourished through the entire night.

When dieting, you want to make sure that you have a large sufficient meal before attending an event or a party. By doing this, you are preventing yourself from eating the party food, which tends to be unhealthy. A glass of good wine is a smart drink option because you may sip at it over a long period of time.

Enough time of day (or night) can be just as important as what you are eating when trying to reach a weight-loss goal. If you do not consume as many calories at night, then you will be famished by morning. This causes you to consume a bigger breakfast. It is advised to get most of your daily calorie intake at morning meal and lunch.

By understanding the things you need to do and change, you can start a fitness program to improve your health and stress levels. Utilizing these tips is the final piece of the puzzle. As this article previously noted, success in a weight loss regime is all about enough time and dedication you put into it.

If this all looks too complicated and you don?t think you can manage it without a small amount of help, perhaps you should think about weight loss supplements reviews or search for unique hoodia reviews

New Plum Toddler Snacks review - Madhouse Family Reviews

Those clever people at Plum have just come up with a brand new selection of baby and toddler meals and snacks to add to the existing range. I was impressed to see how many new products they have introduced : for babies aged 0-1 : Plum Stage 1 Mango & Banana pouch, Plum Stage 1 Spinach, sweet potato & apple pouch, Plum Stage 1 Parsnip, pea & pear pouch, Plum Stage 2 Salmon & spinach risotto meal pouch; New Stage 2 Puddings : Plum Stage 2 Bread & Butter pudding pouch, Plum Stage 2 Apricot & Apple rice pudding pouch ; For toddlers aged 1-4, New Cereal Bars: Plum Stage 4 Oaty Chomps Strawberry Cheesecake Bars, Plum Stage 4 Oaty Chomps Pumpkin Pie Bars).

They kindly sent us through some of the pudding pouches and oaty chomps to try out and, as you can see, Pierre couldn't even wait until I'd taken the photo before he wanted to get his mitts on them !

I opened up the Oaty Chomp bars too - one of each variety (the divinely-named Strawberry Cheesecake and Pumpkin Pie) and laid them out for his inquisitive fingers to find. The bars are very moist, gooey and soft which I wasn't expecting as the word "oaty" had me expecting something dry like a flapjack. I was interested to see what Pierre would make of them.

Well, predictably, he absolutely loved the pouches. In these photos, he is guzzling a Mango & Banana pouch, which has just been released in the handy pouch format after being available in pots, which is a stage 1 smooth puree. But he also loved the Stage 2 dessert pouches with their fork-mash texture. He did initially do a double-take, because he obviously wasn't expecting a lumpy texture, but after a quick look at the pouch, he polished off the rest of both flavours (but not both in one sitting, I might add !), Apricot & Apple rice pudding and Bread & Butter Pudding. The pouches are fabulous for snacks on the go, are totally mess free (especially when your toddler wants to feed himself but often misses his mouth!) and are resealable so if it doesn't all get eaten in one go, you can save the rest for later.

Now, on to the Oaty Chomps. Both 2-year-old Pierre and 6-year-old Juliette were keen to have a taste and they enthusiastically took a big bite ... then both said yuck. I took a bite and thought they were delicious, really reminding me of the Nakd raw fruit and nut bars that I reviewed some time ago. (Click on the link to see that review.) When big sister Sophie got home from art club, she had a taste too and declared them delicious, so I'm not sure why they didn't appeal to the littlies ! It may be a texture issue so I'll try chopping them up into bits with some apple wedges or raisins next time.

The individually wrapped bars are perfect for snacks on the go though so I'll be keeping a few in my handbag for when we're out and about. I'll eat them if the kids don't want them !!

star rating : 4.5/5

RRP : stage 1 pouch 99p for 100g, stage 2 pouches ?1.19 for 100g, Oaty Chomps ?1.99 for 5 x 20g bars

(AP) ? A teacher's role may be to expand a student's vocabulary, but one Arizona lawmaker wants to make sure that doesn't include four-letter words.

A state legislator has introduced a bill that would punish public school teachers if they use words that violate the obscenity and profanity guidelines set forth by the Federal Communications Commission.

State Sen. Lori Klein introduced the measure because a parent in her district complained about a high school teacher using foul language.

The words were "totally inappropriate," and teachers that don't keep their language clean aren't setting a good example for students, she said.

"You're there to be educated," Klein said. "You're not there to talk smack."

Critics say the bill is unnecessary and any discipline needed should be handled by schools and districts, not the Legislature.

Klein, a Republican from Anthem, made national headlines last fall when she pointed her gun at a reporter while demonstrating the weapon's laser sight during an interview.

Klein's proposal may be constitutional, but "not necessarily wise," said James Weinstein, a Constitutional Law professor at Arizona State University

Weinstein said the FCC has made exceptions for offensive language based on context, and that could make things complicated.

"FCC standards aren't exactly black and white," said Anjali Abraham, a lobbyist for the American Civil Liberties Union. The organization has some concerns about the bill, Abraham said.

A spokeswoman for the National Conference of State Legislators said the organization is not aware of any other state with a law similar to the Arizona proposal.

If the bill becomes law, a teacher whose speech or conduct violates FCC regulations would receive a warning, and after three incidents, the teacher would face a week of suspension without pay. A teacher would be fired after the fifth offense.

The proposal applies to K-12 teachers, and is limited to speech in a classroom setting.

Klein told the Senate committee Wednesday that she wished the issue could be left to school boards, but she didn't feel they were protecting "young, impressionable kids" from offensive language.

Floyd Brown, the parent in Anthem who complained to Klein, knows better than most what kind of impression words can make.

Brown is a longtime Republican strategist who produced the infamous "Willie Horton" ad during the 1998 presidential campaign, which tied Democratic candidate Michael Dukakis to the release of a convicted murderer serving a life sentence.

Brown is also the founding chairman of Citizens United, the group whose lawsuit led to a 2010 Supreme Court ruling that barred the government from limiting corporation and labor union spending for political purposes.

Last year, Brown's daughter Olivia came home from high school upset that a teacher was using the F-word in class. Brown brought the issue to school administrators, but they didn't take him seriously, he said.

Brown said he pulled his daughter, then a sophomore, out of the school and she's now being homeschooled.

"I'm not going to subject my daughter to that kind of environment," Brown said

Brown said he took his complaint to Klein because he lives in her district.

A representative for the school district said the school received no complaints about staff using inappropriate language, which would violate the district's professional conduct policy.

Most districts adopt professional conduct policies barring the use of profane language or actions by employees while at work, said Tracey Benson, a spokeswoman for the Arizona School Boards Association, which creates model policies for districts.

That policy should remain in the hands of school boards, superintendents and principals, said state Sen. David Schapira, a Tempe Democrat.

The state doesn't need to change the law just because there was one incident that "may not have been handled the right way," he said.

"I don't remember this being a big problem when I taught high school," Schapira said.

A Senate committee advanced the measure Wednesday morning by a vote of 5-2 along party lines, with Republicans in favor. The bill must pass through another committee before it goes before the full Senate.

Sen. Frank Antenori, a Republican from Tucson, voted in favor of the bill and cited a recent report he had read that detailed a pattern of abusive language being used by teachers and other staffers in some Tucson schools. Antenori said some of the comments were "pretty darn shocking" and he couldn't believe the employees didn't lose their jobs.

Sen. Steve Gallardo, D-Phoenix, who voted against the bill, said administrators and school boards should be the ones to punish educators, not the Legislature.

"We're really holding a big hammer over teachers," Gallardo said.

Kelly Parrish, an English teacher at Desert Vista High School in Phoenix, said she always keeps her conduct professional in the classroom, but she feels the restrictions could cause trouble when the curriculum is not "G-rated," she said. Words that the FCC would not allow on television or radio can come up while discussing literature, such as racial slurs in "To Kill a Mockingbird," she said.

"We're supposed to be preparing them for the next level," Parrish said. "If we just put them in a bubble and protect them, I don't think we're doing a good job at making them ready for real-life situations by sugar-coating everything."

MILWAUKEE (AP) ? LeBron James and the Miami Heat found a way over one of the oddest hurdles they've faced in an otherwise strong start to the season: They've finally beaten the Milwaukee Bucks.

James scored 35 points on 16 for 21 shooting and the Heat used a third-quarter surge to beat the Bucks 114-96 on Monday night.

Dwyane Wade scored 22 and Mario Chalmers added 13 for the Heat, who were 0-2 against the Bucks this season coming into the game. James scored 16 of his points in the third quarter as the Heat took control.

"I know what happened the third quarter the last time we played here," James said. "We had a big lead and they just came out and jumped on us. It was good that we were able to come out and put some pressure on them."

Bucks coach Scott Skiles wants to see his team improve defensively, but didn't necessarily blame James' big night on poor defending.

"He can take and make difficult shots ? and maybe they're not difficult for him," Skiles said. "They're difficult for most people. They're not difficult for him. He hit a couple of fadeaways in front of our bench, 18-, 19-foot fadeaways with a guy in his face, so you've got to give him those."

Carlos Delfino scored 24 for the Bucks.

The Bucks beat the Heat 91-82 in Miami on Jan. 22, then beat them again in Milwaukee on Feb. 1, a 105-97 victory in which the Bucks trailed by 18 points in the first half. The Bucks haven't swept the Heat since the 1990-91 season.

"We knew it," James said. "They beat us twice really handily. They played a great four quarters and beat us. They held us under our averages offensively."

Brandon Jennings said the Bucks are more worried about their recent skid ? they've lost five of seven since that Feb. 1 win ? than they are about beating the Heat two out of three times.

"I mean, it would have been nice to beat them three (times) but right now, for us, we need to try to get back on track," said Jennings, who scored 12 points. "We're not really thinking about, 'Yeah, we beat them twice and they beat us once.'"

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra acknowledged before the game that the Bucks' previous two victories got his attention.

Spoelstra said that the Bucks' physical defense got to the Heat in the first two games, saying the Heat had to win what he described as the high-effort "fistfight battles" on the court this time out.

It looked as if the Heat might be in for another tough battle early on, as the Bucks led 30-27 after the first quarter.

"They started out good, knocking down some threes, but our competitive spirit was much better," Spoelstra said. "Offensively, we were able to play to our identity."

The Heat settled for jump shots in their first two losses to the Bucks, but they were more direct this time around ? especially James.

"I think LeBron just kind of getting his post position on the block kind of shook up our defense a little bit," Jennings said. "He made some tough turnarounds and he was just getting to the basket a lot more. They weren't really settling for the jumpshots tonight, everything was to the basket."

Leading 55-50 after two quarters, the Heat put together a 14-4 run out of halftime. It started right away, as Chalmers stole the ball from Brandon Jennings and cruised down the court for a fastbreak layup.

The Bucks then began to struggle on offense ? including one sequence in which Milwaukee's Drew Gooden had the ball swatted away from him twice on a single possession by Miami's Joel Anthony. Gooden was called for a technical foul immediately afterward.

Later in the run, James stole the ball from Jennings, then finished with a powerful one-handed slam to give the Heat a 69-54 lead.

James went on to score 16 in the quarter, including another monster dunk in the final seconds. With the clock running down at the end of the quarter, James took advantage of a defensive lapse and ran uncontested down the lane, finishing with a one-handed dunk with 4.2 seconds left in the quarter.

With the win, Miami ran its record to 22-7 ? equaling the franchise's best start after the first 29 games of a season, set in 1996-97 and again in 2004-05.

"Just playing good ball," James said. "It's not about one guy. Everyone is in a flow. When we're in a flow, we're a really good team."

Notes: Miami was without C Dexter Pittman, who has a sprained left shoulder. Spoelstra said he will be evaluated on a game-to-game basis. ... The Bucks congratulated Bon Iver, a band that traces its roots to Wisconsin, for winning two Grammys during a timeout. ... A group of fans sitting courtside was doused when a ball went out of bounds and splattered a man's beverage. The incident was replayed on the stadium scoreboard.

US, Europe look at fast but risky penalty on Iran (AP)

WASHINGTON ? The United States and Europe are considering unprecedented punishment against Iran that could immediately cripple the country's financial lifeline. But it's an extreme option in the banking world that would come with its own costs.

The Obama administration wants Iran evicted from SWIFT, an independent financial clearinghouse that is crucial to the country's overseas oil sales. That would leapfrog the current slow-pressure campaign of sanctions aimed at persuading Iran to drop what the U.S. and its allies contend is a drive toward developing and building nuclear weapons. It also perhaps would buy time for the U.S. to persuade Israel not to launch a pre-emptive military strike on Iran this spring.

The last-resort financial effort suggests the U.S. and Europe are grasping for ways to show immediate results because economic sanctions have so far failed to force Iran back to nuclear talks

But such a penalty could send oil prices soaring when many of the world's economies are still frail. It also could hurt ordinary Iranians and undercut the reputation of SWIFT, a banking hub used by virtually every nation and corporation around the world. The organization's full name is the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications.

Meanwhile, violence is increasing. Explosions in Bangkok on Tuesday ? Israel's defense minister labeled them an "attempted terrorist attack" ? came the day after Israel accused Iran of trying to kill its diplomats in India and Georgia. Those attacks followed the recent killings of Iranian scientists.

In the financial world, the United States can't order SWIFT to kick Iran out. But it has leverage in that it can punish the Brussels-based organization's board of directors individually, possibly freezing their assets or limiting their travel. Talks are focused now on having Europe make the first move.

Short of total expulsion, Washington and representatives of several European nations are in talks over ways to restrict Iran's use of the banking consortium to collect oil profits.

The Obama administration is divided over whether the possible gain is worth the risk in trying to threaten SWIFT into kicking out a member country, in part because of concern that it would set back the global financial recovery. Iran remains a global financial player despite years of banking sanctions, and blocking it from using the respected transfer system would be a black mark like no other.

More than 40 Iranian banks and institutions use SWIFT to process financial transactions, and losing access to that flow of international funds could badly damage the Islamic republic's economy. It would also probably hurt average Iranians more than the welter of existing banking sanctions already in place since prices for household goods would rise while the value of Iranian currency would drop.

Lawyers for SWIFT are holding meetings in Washington. People familiar with the talks say a compromise is possible in which SWIFT would voluntarily bar or restrict Iranian transfers.

But if SWIFT fails to act on its own, the U.S. expects Europe to require it to terminate services for Iranian banks, one Obama administration official said.

David Cohen, the Treasury Department's undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, delivered that message to European Union officials in Brussels earlier this month, said the official, who was not authorized to speak publicly and thus spoke only on the condition of anonymity.

Mark Dubowitz, a sanctions expert advising the White House on Iran, said the Obama administration is having detailed discussions on the merits and consequences of forcing SWIFT to block Iranian transactions.

Some in the administration also prefer to give time for new sanctions on Iran's Central Bank, officially enforced starting just this month, to take hold before layering on a round of even more draconian penalties.

SWIFT was involved in a separate controversy when it was revealed in 2006 that it had skirted the EU's strict privacy laws after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks by transferring millions of pieces of personal information from its U.S. offices to American authorities as part of the US Terrorist Finance Tracking Program.

"It is an essential cog in the wheel, if not the wheel itself, in international financial transactions and trade," said David Aufhauser, former general counsel at the Treasury Department who worked with SWIFT to set up that information transfer.

SWIFT handles cross-border payments for more than 10,000 financial institutions and corporations in 210 countries. It lets users exchange financial information securely and reliably, thereby lowering costs and reducing risk. It operates on trust and neutrality ? SWIFT accepts nearly all comers and does not judge the merits of the transactions passing through its secure message system. Its managers generally brush off investigators and enforcement agencies, telling them to take up suspected wrongdoing directly with nations or corporations.

Established in 1973, the essential but little-known hub is overseen by major central banks, including the U.S. Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank.

Lawyers familiar with SWIFT's operations said it could bar processing actions with any Iranian party or third parties representing Iran, though that would open the consortium to complaints of favoritism or political influence. It could permit the processing but quarantine Iranian transactions, or require warnings to those doing business with Iran. Penalties on Iran short of expulsion could allow SWIFT to preserve a greater appearance of neutrality but make business partners think twice, lawyers said.

Proponents of blocking Iran from SWIFT say the financial network's own bylaws require that its services not be used to facilitate illegal activities and allow it to prohibit users that are subject to sanctions.

While the U.S. and Europe debate options, some American lawmakers are trying to increase pressure on SWIFT. The Senate Banking Committee passed a measure earlier this month directing the White House to press SWIFT to block Iranian entities.

Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, also introduced a tougher bill that would compel the administration to sanction SWIFT unless it stopped providing services to Iran.

If lawmakers were to pass a compromise bill, final legislation could land on the president's desk in late spring or early summer, according to a senior Senate aide.

The pending legislation has caught the attention of officials at SWIFT. The financial network's general counsel and other advisers requested a meeting with congressional lawmakers and staff, the aide said.

Those meetings are scheduled in Washington for the week of Feb. 20, said the aide, who also spoke only on condition of anonymity.

Officials close to the White House say the Obama administration is comfortable with the less restrictive language in the Senate Banking Committee measure, but has concerns that more-binding legislation would leave the U.S. less flexibility in dealing with Iran.

SWIFT did not respond to requests for comment. In a brief statement posted on its website, the consortium said it is committed to fighting misuse of the financial system to finance terrorism and has cooperated with enforcement agencies in the U.S. and Europe.

Without addressing the specifics of a full expulsion or more limited block on Iranian transactions, SWIFT's statement urged caution.

"SWIFT remains committed to maintaining its role as a neutral global financial communications network" while complying with sanctions laws, the statement said.

Asian, American continents about to collide (in 50 million years or so)

A team of Yale?geologists predict that Asia and the Americas will smash into each other, forming a new supercontinent dubbed 'Amasia.'

Continents are ancient puzzle pieces. It's easy to mentally reassemble the prehistoric supercontinent Pangea when we note how snugly South America fits along Africa's shore. But scientists have long debated exactly how this process unfolds, over hundreds of millions of years. The answer will allow them to predict what future supercontinents may look like.

Ross Mitchell, a geologist at Yale University, and his colleagues have recently proposed an new model of how supercontinents form. By measuring the ancient magnetism of geological samples, researchers speculate that the next supercontinent, which geologists call 'Amasia', will not form on the equator, but around the North Pole.

Traditionally, there have been two competing theories on how ?supercontinents?form. The first, known as extroversion, states that Pangea fissured into continents (like North America), separated, and will someday form a new supercontinent ? Amasia ? on the other side of the world. The other model, called introversion, predicts that the continents will slow their drift and then collapse back together around the same area that Pangea originally formed.

Mitchell and his colleagues collected an array of geological samples and measured their magnetic orientation, essentially how the rocks aligned themselves with the magnetic poles of the Earth. Minerals lose their ability to magnetically align at specific temperatures, called the Curie temperature. For most minerals this temperature is scorchingly high. The Curie temperature of iron is around 1,400 degrees Fahrenheit. But many rocks are born in these extreme temperatures, and as they drop below their Curie Temperature their magnetic alignments become locked in place.

The Yale team sampled rocks of different ages, and saw how these frozen alignments changed over billions of years. Since all the rocks would have been oriented toward the Earth's poles, they could attribute any change in alignment to the motion of the continents. They then used this information to construct a new model of how supercontinents formed.

The new theory ? called orthoversion ? states that the continents will drift towards the North Pole instead of toward the equator or back to their starting points. The position of Amasia will be angled at 90 degrees from where Pangea once was. The geologists also found that the model helps explain how supercontinents that preceded Pangea had formed.

Peter Cawood, a geologist at St. Andrews University, commended the new theory in a recent February article of Nature, saying that, before orthoversion, geologists "...weren't quite sure whether there was method in the madness as you went from one [supercontinent] to the other."
