Common Problems That Can Develop in Automotive Air Conditioning

Last updated 1 day 5 hours ago

Nothing is more uncomfortable or inconvenient than a broken down air conditioner in the middle of the summer. Fortunately, you can use these auto repair tips to catch problems in your car?s air conditioner to keep the cold air blowing as long as you need it. Early prevention and maintenance can also help you avoid many of the problems associated with damaged automotive air conditioning systems, including:

  • Uncomfortable Temperatures ? Your air conditioner won?t be much use if it only blows warm air. Thankfully, an uncomfortable temperature is one of the simplest air conditioning system problems in the book. The issue is usually caused by a low volume of refrigerant. Have your auto repair technician check for reservoir leaks when your refrigerant is being refilled, as an unrepaired leak will result in temperature control problems throughout the summer.
    ?
  • Low Airflow ? Some air conditioners refuse to blow straight on target. If your air conditioner is suffering this problem, then you likely have a broken vacuum supply line. This series of tubes helps to lead air to the right vent or exhaust. Ask your mechanic about vacuum supply line issues if your fan is working but your passengers aren?t receiving any air.
    ?
  • Excess Noise ? The soft whirr of fans is typically the only sound an automotive air conditioner should make. In fact, additional noises from your vehicle?s air conditioner may indicate a serious problem. For example, these loud noises may be a result of a broken down compressor or a corroded fan belt. Keep your air conditioner components in good repair to avoid these noisy problems.
    ?
  • Offensive Odors ? You may notice strange odors coming from an aging car?s air conditioner. This smell is likely the result of mold and bacteria that have taken up resident in the evaporator. Let a team of professionals wash away these smells with specialty chemicals that won?t harm the engine.

The experts at Dekalb Tire and Automotive Repair can have your automotive repairs finished quickly. We pride ourselves on our flawless repairs and great customer service. Learn more about our company and our technicians today by calling our office at (678) 954-1728.

10 Reasons Internet Marketing is Important to Your Business ...

Blue Rise Media - Internet Marketing

Internet Marketing has increased significantly over the last decade and business owners who have yet to take the plunge are missing out on wonderful opportunities.

1. Online Branding

The primary reason for beginning an Internet Marketing campaign is to increase product awareness. As they are browsing the web or performing internet searches, consumers may come across the business name or logo and become interested in what the company has to offer.

2. Meet Changing Demands

Television, radio and print ads still have their places in the marketing industry, but with technology on the rise, more and more consumers have access to the web. By beginning an Internet Marketing campaign, businesses can keep up with this ever-changing technology.

3. Consumer Preferences

Online purchases have been increasing sharply over the last several years. This is due in part to busy lifestyles and the convenience of getting information and ordering products via the Internet. Business owners can capitalize on this convenience by providing consumers what they want?instant access to products and information.

4. Cost Efficiency

Internet Marketing is one of the most cost-effective methods of advertisement. The costs associated with starting a website, and then, using marketing articles or Social Media to establish an online presence is minimal when compared to the costs of traditional forms of advertising.

5. Increase Website Traffic

The use of articles or Social Media as a marketing strategy will undoubtedly drive traffic to a business?s website. The more people who visit the website, the better the likelihood of closing more sales and generating more interest in the product becomes.

6. Increase Sales

By providing consumers with the opportunity to purchase products online rather than physically driving to a location or sending an order form by mail, impulse purchasing power increases. This results in more revenue for businesses and an excellent return on their investments (ROI).

7. Always Available to Consumers

Work schedules and certain lifestyles can have an impact on consumers? abilities to physically go shopping during normal business hours. By using Internet Marketing techniques, businesses can give consumers a 24-hour outlet for finding the products they want and need.

8. Customized Offerings

Advertising online is a very effective way to provide customized offerings to a very targeted demographic. Internet Marketing strategies will usually call for advertisements to be placed in such a way that the target audience will see them and respond.

9. Maintain Communication

As part of any good Internet Marketing campaign, it is important to include landing pages on the website in which consumers can enter their email addresses to subscribe to newsletters. These newsletters keep consumers interested, even after they have purchased a product from the business. They also work to help close sales when consumers may be unsure of their next move.

10. Improve Credibility

Maintaining an online presence via Internet Marketing is a great way to keep up with the times and provide consumers with all of the opportunities they need 24 hours a day. With a bit of time and effort?and very little investment?business owners can realize success beyond their wildest dreams.

LittleBigPlanet (PlayStation Vita)

LittleBigPlanet was a surprise hit for the PlayStation 3?. It was a deceptively cute platformer that combined accessible, friendly design with some of the most powerful editing tools offered in a retail game. The result was not only a bestselling game, but a series that spawned a second PS3 game, a PSP game, a lot of premium downloadable content, and several huge libraries of user-generated content. LittleBigPlanet now hits Sony's newest handheld with LittleBigPlanet? for the PS Vita?, a $39.99 game that offers the same great gameplay as the original with even more powerful editing tools, making it even more full of potential and open to a ton of levels and games built with it. It's the best version of LittleBigPlanet to date, and one of the best games currently on the PS Vita.

The Same Game
If you've played LittleBigPlanet before, you've played this game. The mechanics are basically identical to both PS3 versions and the PSP version of LittleBigPlanet. You play a cute "Sackboy" who runs around large, side-scrolling levels based on various themes, solving puzzles on the way to the end of each level.

As with the other versions of LittleBigPlanet, the single-player campaign is relatively short (it will take players between four and six hours) and serves as little more than a training ground and demonstration area to show what the engine can do. You can earn various items by exploring each level, which can easily add another hour or two to your game time, and some puzzles require additional players to help you out. The locations are varied in theme, and let you unlock the components of each theme to use in your own creations. The single-player campaign shows you what can be done with all these things you unlock, but it's only the tip of the iceberg.

Stephen Fry returns as gaming's most charming narrator, and he walks you through the single-player levels and creation tools with his friendly, reassuring voice. It fits with the game itself, which is so bubbly and warm it'll make you want to light a cake on fire.

Building a World
The creation tools and online aspect of LittleBigPlanet is the biggest part of the game. You can build your own levels with your own rules and share them online. You can also play with friends online to beat those levels, show them off, or unlock additional items with which to build those levels by getting help for the single player levels.

The creation tools are powerful and daunting, with tons of switches, joints, sensors, connectors, and even logic gates? to make every object in your level do exactly what you want them to. Each object can also be of your creation, using a variety of different shapes, decorations, and stickers. The tools are so powerful, you can even completely change the rules of the game and turn the platforming game into an arcade, racing, or puzzle game of your own design. The single-player campaign includes an Arcade with five games that demonstrate what you can do with the engine, and it's impressive to see just how flexible LittleBigPlanet can be with enough work.

There's a lot of power in the game's editor, and there's a lot to learn to use that power. LittleBigPlanet comes with 67 tutorials, all of which a narrated by Stephen Fry, and you'll have to pay attention to all of them to take full advantage of what the editor can do. You can create a simple platform level in just a few minutes, but a complex menagerie of tricks and hacks can take hours to learn and hours more to build. These tools are available to all players, which means you can enjoy the fruits of community creativity without having to learn the tools yourself.

Online Content
Everything you create in LittleBigPlanet will be uploaded to LBP.me, which already hosts PS3 LittleBigPlanet content. You can't play PS3 levels on the PS Vita version of the game, and at the time of this writing I could not load PS Vita levels from the site, but content for the PS Vita version should be browsable and queueable for fast-loading in the game on LBP.me after the game's release. You can also import all the DLC costumes you had from the PS3 versions of LittleBigPlanet and LittleBigPlanet 2, b ut that feature wasn't enabled at the time of this writing.

The PS Vita's touch screen and rear touch panel add some useful cursor and camera controls to the creation tools, and add a new dimension to the game's own controls. You can use your finger to move certain platforms, push them in and out of the background, and manipulate different things in levels. When making levels, you can use the touch screen to control the cursor and place objects, and multitouch controls let you rotate and resize them, though not with as much precision as the analog sticks.

This is easily the best version of LittleBigPlanet yet, with more creation tools than ever. It looks just as good as it did on the PS3, and the extensive options promise no end of levels and even full games from the community. It doesn't revolutionize LittleBigPlanet, but it refines and adds enough that it's a satisfying sequel on a handheld system. It gets our Editors' Choice for PS Vita games.

Oral bacteria may signal pancreatic cancer risk

ScienceDaily (Sep. 18, 2012) ? Pancreatic cancer is highly lethal and difficult to detect early. In a new study, researchers report that people who had high levels of antibodies for an infectious oral bacterium turned out to have double the risk for developing the cancer. High antibody levels for harmless oral bacteria, meanwhile, predicted a reduced pancreatic cancer risk.

A new study finds significant associations between antibodies for multiple oral bacteria and the risk of pancreatic cancer, adding support for the emerging idea that the ostensibly distant medical conditions are related.

The study of blood samples from more than 800 European adults, published in the journal Gut, found that high antibody levels for one of the more infectious periodontal bacterium strains of Porphyromonas gingivalis were associated with a two-fold risk for pancreatic cancer. Meanwhile, study subjects with high levels of antibodies for some kinds of harmless "commensal" oral bacteria were associated with a 45-percent lower risk of pancreatic cancer.

"The relative increase in risk from smoking is not much bigger than two," said Brown University epidemiologist Dominique Michaud, the paper's corresponding author. "If this is a real effect size of two, then potential impact of this finding is really significant."

Pancreatic cancer, which is difficult to detect and kills most patients within six months of diagnosis, is responsible for 40,000 deaths a year in the United States.

Several researchers, including Michaud, have found previous links between periodontal disease and pancreatic cancer. The Gut paper is the first study to test whether antibodies for oral bacteria are indicators of pancreatic cancer risk and the first study to associate the immune response to commensal bacteria with pancreatic cancer risk. The physiological mechanism linking oral bacteria and pancreatic cancer remains unknown, but the study strengthens the suggestion that there is one.

"This is not an established risk factor," said Michaud, who is also co-lead author with Jacques Izard, of the Forsyth Institute and Harvard University. "But I feel more confident that there is something going on. It's something we need to understand better."

Izard, a microbiologist, said the importance of bacteria in cancer is growing. "The impact of immune defense against both commensals and pathogenic bacteria undeniably plays a role," he said. "We need to further investigate the importance of bacteria in pancreatic cancer beyond the associated risk."

Prospective, controlled study

To conduct their research, Michaud and Izard drew on medical records and preserved blood samples collected by the Imperial College-led European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition Study, a massive dataset of more than 500,000 adults in 10 countries. Detailed health histories and blood samples are available from more than 380,000 of the participants.

From that population, the researchers found 405 people who developed pancreatic cancer, but no other cancer, and who had blood samples available. The researchers also selected 416 demographically similar people who did not develop pancreatic cancer for comparison.

The researchers blinded themselves to which samples came from cancer patients and which didn't during their analysis of the blood, which consisted of measuring antibody concentrations for 25 pathogenic and commensal oral bacteria. In their study design and analysis they controlled for smoking, diabetes, body mass index, and other risk factors.

An important element of the study design was that date of the blood samples preceded the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer by as much as a decade, meaning that the significant difference in antibody levels were likely not a result of cancer.

Instead, the underlying mechanisms that link Porphyromonas gingivalis to pancreatic cancer could be causal, Michaud said, although much more research is needed to understand this association.

Meanwhile, the researchers speculate, the association of high levels of antibodies for commensal bacteria and pancreatic cancer, may indicate an innate, highly active immune response that is protective against cancer.

"Genetic determinants of immune surveillance clearly play a critical role in pancreatic cancer development," the authors wrote. "Consequently, it is plausible that elevated levels of antibodies to oral bacteria in individuals serve as a marker for a genetically stronger immune response, providing protection against carcinogenesis."

Michaud, who studies cancer risk factors generally, continues to investigate the association between oral bacteria and pancreatic cancer in collaboration with Izard.

The National Cancer Institute was the primary funder of the study.

JetBlue Kaband highspeed internet now arriving in early 2013, eight times faster than KuBand

JetBlue Airways' high-speed wireless initiative is being held in a flight pattern until "early 2013," apparently. The company announced as much in a detailed blog post this afternoon, which also compared speeds of its forthcoming in-plane high-speed internet to the competition -- JetBlue's Ka-band operates roughly eight times faster than the Ku-band competition, and over nine times faster than ATG. Moreover, Ka-band can scale to a full plane of passengers, meaning everyone gets the "at-home experience" they'd like regardless of how many folks are signed on. As previously noted, the "basic Wi-Fi" service with JetBlue will cost nothing -- which sounds to us like there are plans to reveal a more expensive tier (or tiers) in the near future. But then again, we really like free things.
